Elder Sages

For tens of thousands of years, men and women elder sages were the wisdom-keepers in human societies around the world. Elders took special responsibility for the welfare and development of young people, and played the special role of ensuring that tribal decisions took into consideration the welfare of future generations.

Largely lost in our youth-oriented culture, the powerful voices of elder sages are desperately needed.  Reclaiming Our Elders Voice workshops and this website are devoted to encouraging elders to reclaim our elders voice – to intentionally become sages; to leave a legacy through our contributions to our community, nation, and world; and to speak powerfully on behalf of generations to come.

Use This Website For:

Role of Elders: A discussion of the role of elders in human societies, and an image of elders for our time.

Developing Our Inner Elder:  Tools we can use to develop the qualities of an elder sage.

To Serve Future Generations:  Ideas for enhancing the legacy we each can leave through service to future generations.

Reclaiming Our Elders Voice Workshops, Resources you can use, Opportunities to Get Involved

Elders Forum:  Be involved in an on-going discussion of eldering in today’s world.

What’s New:

Sage-ing Workshops

New opportunities to participate in a

2 day Sage-ing Guild Intensive Workshop

in Indiana, California or Colorado.  These workshops provide an in-depth introduction to the concepts and tools of Sage-ing.

And each fulfills the pre-requisite requirement for participation in the

Sage-ing Guild Certification Program.

For details, go to our Sage-ing Guild Workshops page.

Your Elder Mission

As we are moving into a new year, many of us engage in goal-setting.

We think a good way to start is to think about your purpose or mission.

In our new Our Elder Mission section of this website, we offer thoughts on mission, an elder mission exercise, and a Forum for discussion of our missions as elders.

Start An Elder Circle

Create a group to support your conscious aging throughout 2009 and beyond.  All it takes is a handful of elders willing to meet regularly (weekly, monthly, whatever works).  See our Elder Circles section for lots of resources.

Participate in Our Forums

We have three Forums on this website where you can read the thoughts of other Reclaiming Our Elders Voice Network Members, and leave your own thoughts:

    Elder Circles Forum

    Elder Mission Forum

    Environment Forum

    Elders Forum (for everything else)

Elder Circles

See our new Elder Circles section for ideas and resources for forming an Elder Circle. An Elder Circle can be a great way to help us move forward in our conscious aging journey.  All it takes is a handful of people who agree to meet on a regular schedule.  Our Elder Circles section provides a great deal of information and ideas for successful Elder Circles.

And the opportunity to contact an expert: Reclaiming Our Elders Voice partner Del Jones of Tucson, who has initiated and inspired a number of Elder Circles in Arizona.

Send An Elder Message To Obama

No matter who you voted for in the recent presidential election, we elders must impart our long-range, “legacy for future generations” wisdom to our new president.

You can go to the White House website,

http://www.whitehouse.gov/  and send a message about what you feel is most important for the new administration to focus on - just click on “Contact Us” at the bottom.

See our Elders Forum for a discussion of messages we’re sending to the incoming President.
